Social Welfare Department
Social Welfare Department, is one of the most important Department which deals directly with the citizen. This department has been established to implement social welfare programmes and services for the upliftment of disadvantaged segments of the population specially Women, Children, disabled persons, old aged and infirmed etc. So, the Welfare Services intended to provide needed care and protection for weaker sections of the community. Social Welfare Department services aim to safeguard social cohesion and social solidarity; to provide social protection, achieve social inclusion and promote equal opportunities for the citizens; to combat poverty and social exclusion and to promote the interests of individuals, families and communities.
Social Welfare Department plays an key role in addressing problems of weaker sections of the society, like Old Age Persons, Physically Challenged People, Women in Distress, Mal-Nourished children Lactating and expecting women, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, handicapped persons , Other Backward Classes and other Economically Weaker Sections of the Society. Keeping in mind the priority of our National Development, the commitment towards welfare of under-privileged and the down trodden, backward and vulnerable sections of the society is tremendous. Hence the role of the Social Welfare Department in fulfilment of this commitment thus becomes important among the various sections and classes of our population, there is lot of deprivation and neglect and the Social Welfare Department has to be instrumental for removing the distress of these sections through amelioration and anti- poverty measures.
Besides this the Social Welfare Department also provides avenues of handicapped and creates awareness amongst general public regarding the welfare measures of the Department.
Objectives of most of the Social Welfare Department are:
Care, protection, welfare, development and rehabilitation of children, women, disabled persons, aged and infirm, delinquent and neglected juveniles, destitute and orphan children, ex-convicts, ex-criminals and persons released on probation

- Safeguard every individual΄s right to a decent standard of living
- Sensitize non governmental organizations and local authorities to provide quality social services on the local level
